DepEd: Production of self-learning modules with teachers a joint effort

The Department of Education (DepEd) has responded to the statement of the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) that teachers are allegedly made to create self-learning modules when these should be done by experts from the education bureau.

On July 8, during the virtual press conference of Oplan Balik Eskwela-Brigada Eskwela (OBE-BE), DepEd shared that its work with select teachers is actually a “joint effort” and none are being coerced to do so. DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones even deemed the project “fun” and immersive because it lets teachers from different areas of the country to work together to collaborate on learning materials that they will use themselves.

Said Briones, “They are gathered together with perhaps the best teacher from this place or that place who teaches this particular subject and you get together.”

Briones added that “the very best teachers” along with representatives from DepEd’s Central Office Directors would be working together on the self-learning modules.

DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Atty. Nepomuceno Malaluan emphasized that there are teachers who have been enjoying the project, dispelling claims of some groups that educators are being forced to work on the project.
